Comparing Intel SSD extreme to Crucial 128gb Sata3 SSD

Considering I paid $825 for an 64gb Intel ssd extreme and $425 for two
32gb Intel ssd extreme, the crucial (
128GB Crucial Real SSD C300
2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s)
is not that far out because of
the size and price. I know, I was cutting edge and testing the waters to see
what these things can do. Yes, they are fast and I definitely notice a
difference when I boot back to sata2 7200rpm Seagate 3.5 drive. Is it worth that
much of price difference, probably not. But luxury is just that, not a necessity.

Second thought. For a test I have imaged my w7 ultimate onto 2x 32gb
raid 0 ssd’s (using Adaptec controller), 64gb ssd, and esata 3.5 Seagate.
Unscientific testing after rebooting:

1.       64gb Intel
ssd on mother board seemed to be fastest.

2.       32gb raid 0
using Adaptec controller was noticeably slower than 64gb on mother board. I need
to connect those 2 to the mother board and use the Intel motherboard raid 0 to
test for speed because I suspect the Adaptec card on pcie is causing a slight
delay. Would have guessed that that would be by far the fastest.

3.       Of course
the 3.5 Seagate was slowest of the 3, but that drive “used to be” the norm.

So I am not convinced about the raid 0 anymore. However, I know you are
like me and if you do not get a mother board with usb 3 and sata 3, 6 months
from now, you will b e wondering why you didn’t wait. At least I would be. So
now that those boards are available, it is the one thing that you will not be
upgrading anytime soon. I have added cards, changed drives and even updated
video cards and CPU chip on my primary Dell. But if I was / am going to upgrade
to an new mother board, it is basically a new system build. Consider how long
you have used your current mother board. Are you willing to wait that long
again to get usb3 and sata3? I have held out so far, and if I could not wait
any longer to get a new system, then I would get at least those features as that
will be the next “thing” for a few more years, probably
:)
